Discipline is better than Motivation

Motivation is great, really it is. But be honest to yourself, how many times did you feel inspired by an article or a friend who had lost lots of weight recently and you said “I am going to start a healthy diet next Monday!” And no one doubts you had serious intentions because you obviously were very motivated, but Monday came and Monday passed, right?

Discipline is better than Motivation

The reason is simple: Motivation is not enough! It is basically only enthusiasm which makes you feel good for a while and worse when you realise that you got distracted and failed again. Look at professional athletes, the one thing they all have in common is DISCIPLINE. Discipline is not just an emotion or a desire, discipline is the art of self-control.

Everyone can learn discipline and it is actually not only going to get you slimmer and fitter but make you a better person at work and in your personal relationship. And this is what you need to do:

  1. Name the One reason why you want to become fit. This is the moment you commit and you should know what for. What is it that you desire so badly? Why do you want that killer body? Do you want to impress your partner? Do you want to fit in your old jeans? Do you want to become fit before getting pregnant?
  2. Decide on One single sports activity that you will do every f*cking day no matter what. Set a realistic goal like for example walking for 15 minutes before going to work. Or doing 3 sets of 15 squats before taking a shower or 3 sets of 10 push-ups before going to bed.
  3. Choose the reward you will get after you have followed the new routine for One week. Anything that will keep your motivation high during seven days will do: dinner at this fancy new restaurant, the pair of shoes that are ridiculously expensive but that will definitely suit you so much.

Start with this and nothing else. It will take you maximum five minutes to decide on reason, activity and reward. Write the three of them down on a piece of paper and pin it on the fridge. Share it with your friends through social media – that will give you an extra motivation boost.

After one week you will not be Mr. or Miss Fitness, but you will have the confidence that you are capable to adopt a new behaviour. You will then have the right attitude to take action and follow these 11 tips here Get fit fast. I promise you will get visible results within six weeks!
